Schloss Hotel Kronberg - Frankfurt

FEEL LIKE A BARON AND BARONESS!

We were not supposed to be staying at the Schlosshotel Kronberg, nor even be in Frankfurt at all. A problem created by a cancelled flight meant that we had to extend our European holidays. Rather than treat it as a disaster, we decided to turn it into a positive. Rather than spending 30 hours in a transit lounge, we decided that when we arrived in Frankfurt that we would stay in one of their finest hotels. The Schlosshotel Kronberg seemed to fit the description of the type of hotel we love staying at. We weren't wrong! The moment you pull up outside the incredible Schloss Hotel Kronberg, you cannot help but be overwhelmed by this incredible edifice that was originally built for German Empress Victoria in 1889. It is still owned by the House of Hesse and contains many personal artefacts of Victoria, including her extensive library. Post WW2 the castle was requisitioned by the US military as an officers club, with future US president, General Dwight D. Eisenhower staying here for seven years from 1946. The staff are attentive and helpful. From the doormen to the counter staff. The ground floor is absolutely epic to a degree that cannot be captured in words. Super high ceilings, artefacts and a massive open fire give off the feeling of being in something that is a cross between a castle, a museum and nobleman's palace all rolled into one. Our room was excellent and the bathroom lovely. The restaurant was next level grand. It looked like something out of the late 1700s in it's grandeur. The service from the maître d'hôtel, Shobin Davis V. was superb. Shobin is a delightful Indian chap who went above and beyond the call of duty in his efforts. We cannot thank him enough. The desk staff, particularly Tamara Rehak and the ever polite Lars Kruse solved all minor issues with a friendly smile. Top class. The expansive grounds surrounding the hotel are amazing. Our only regret, was that we could not stay longer. That will have to wait until next time! All in all, a magical hotel that even the most fastidious luxury traveller will love,
