Hotel Metropole - Brussels

BELLE EPOQUE IN NEED OF TLC!

The Hotel Metropole is a classic Belle Epoque hotel in the classic tradition. The very moment you step inside the lobby, you cannot help but be acutely aware of the rich history this hotel exudes with a beauty and charm that naturally appeals to history lovers like my husband and myself. The staff at the front desk are courteous and professional, but regrettably, the rooms really do need an urgent renovation/update. We went down to ask the most helpful concierge Micheal for some advice for our days sight seeing and he really did look stressed and harassed. He seemed relieved that we did not wish to complain and we greeted him with a smile and some questions of what to see. A lovely chap who deserves better than to be yelled at by some unfeeling travellers who cannot discern that a concierge is not the owner/manager of the hotel, just a representative! As we understand, the hotel will be renovated and I am sure it is going to be simply superb when it is all done. In the mean time, the positives are that it is a short walk away from Grand Place and the culinary delights on Place De Brouckere are world class and varied to suit any pallet. We enjoyed our time in Brussels and the Hotel Metropole was a marvellous base to explore the cities charms.
